Seagate Now Shipping 2.5-inch 2TB 7mm HDD

 Seagate is now shipping world`s first 2.5-inch, 7mm, 2TB internal hard drive – Mobile HDD. It is the first mobile 2.5-inch drive with capacity up to 2TB, also 1TB capacity is available. 
This high-capacity mobile HDD is one of the lightest, fastest and most power-efficient 7mm hard drive in the industry, enabling new limits for laptop HDD upgrade and portable external drives.

Drive has standart SATAIII interface, also backwards compatible with SATAII. Because of SATAIII new drive can be integrated into existing laptop designs and portable computer hard drive upgrades. By utilizing one terabyte per disk, new Mobile HDD delivers the highest storage capacity possible in a small 7mm form factor. Despite much bigger possible capacity Mobile HDD comes with affordble price tag. As stated on Seagate product page, drive can hold up to 200,000 photos, 250,000 songs and 124 hours of high definition videos.

There are also two more, very important specs, we thinkg the buyers must know.
 
1. As executive director of Seagate told us, the new drive, with four heads and two platters, uses shingled magnetic recording. It is the first Seagate 2.5 inch hard drive based on this technology with one disadvantage compared to PMR: it`sw write penalty. That means, drive is slower when re-writing data, but faster when writing data for the first time. Mobile HDD is not meant for write-intensive use. 
 
2. New Seagate Mobile HDD has the same specifications as the Ultra Mobile launched in September 2015. Rotation speed for this drive probably is only 5400RPM not 7200RPM.
