Cross-Platform Gaming Will Soon Become a Trend
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The gaming world is one with a mission of adhering to the advent of technology. Experts believe that cross-platform gaming can be available anytime soon.
Game developers would like to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) across all platforms to achieve the ultimate gaming experience for eager players. Epic Games, one of the most prominent developers in the industry, has just recently introduced the “Fortnite” series, which supports cross-platform play. This allows gamers to switch from Xbox One to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) with ease.
According to Reddit, some players have already tried this feature and it did work. Even though some updates need to be done, the hope of having it trend has immensely increased.
In an interview at Gamescom 2017, Epic’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Sweeney shared that he firmly believes that gaming “should be open and democratic” for the medium to be effective.
The remaining challenge for the dream to become a reality is to get Sony on board. The success of “Rocket League” might help in breaking the political barrier. Gamers can now switch between PC, PlayStation, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
However, Microsoft announced that they have the intention to further collaborate with Sony to create cross-platform games in August this year. It is not clear as to how extensive that partnership would be, though. Sony is yet to respond to the call of those who are very eager about the project.
Game developers find the project very easy. Eurogamer reported that the creators think that the incorporation with Sony is what is making it a bit complicated on their end.
“Ark Survival” developers initially desired for the game to cross gaming platforms. There was an official announcement released about the plan, but it was eventually shelved after a few days.
Sweeney thinks that it is the game developer’s ultimate goal to provide a solid connection among gaming peers. Cross-platform may be a farfetched dream for now, but the politics behind it will surely be broken by believers and gaming enthusiasts.
