Western Digital Updated External Hard Drives Design

As Western Digital announced in this morning’s press release – “However ‘unsexy’ the world of data is currently…”

Yes, external hard drives usually aren’t sexy, and Western Digital (WD) wants to change that now by upgrading the design for their two most famous external hard drive lines – WD My Book and WD My Passport.

new-wd-my-passport-ultraThat’s a quite grandiose way of telling that the Western Digital (WD) has done what companies usually do when they’re trying to makeover a popular product line. With the help of Yves Behar, a Swiss designer behind products like OLPC’s XO laptop – or at least with his design company called – Fuseproject. The company re-designed both My Book and My Passport lines – the “monolithic rectangular blocks,” as the WD writes it in its press material.

Everything else stays the same; nothing has changed but the look. Capacity, product size, and other internal components are the same. So there is definitely no performance improvement over this update.
