Currently, WD easystore external desktop hard drives are on sale at Best Buy – only $159.99 for 8TB of storage (only 2 cents per GB)! And while this might seem like a bargain as is, easystore external hard drives contain WD Red HDDs. This makes them not only excellent external hard drives for regular customers but also a cheap way to build large NAS or RAID systems as the WD Red HDDs are optimized for use in NAS systems. Not to mention the fact that these drives themselves go for the original price tag of easystore of around $300.
WD Easystore Specs

Building a 16TB NAS or RAID system can often times take close to a thousand dollars, but if you can get your hands on a couple easystore portable hard drives while they’re on sale, you can build such a system for around $600-700. As with most other external hard drives, removing the drive itself from the case is just a matter of unscrewing a couple screws and removing the drive from its enclosure.
WD Red drives are not only optimized for NAS, but may also come with double the normal cache size of 256MB. Just note that not all easystore external hard drives will provide this cache size, as some models come with the regular 128MB cache. To know which one is which, just look at the product number on the bottom of the product package:
- DCM: MGBJRCK – 256MB cache
- DCM: LGBJRCK – 128MB cache
