The new WD My Passport SSD

A few days ago Western Digital introduced to the world a new My Passport SSD, although this time it is going to be an SSD, the first Western Digital portable SSD storage. The new My Passport SSD will have much better performance than any of the predecessors. WD My Passport SSD is aimedΒ at users that need high-performance mobile storage devices.

The new Passport SSD is stated to have speed as high as 510 MB/s, making it a lot faster than any previous portable My Passport series drives. My Passport is using USB Type-C port and is USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 GB/s) ready. It will come with USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A for those who are not yet ready for USB Type-C ports.

My Passport SSD will be compatible with Mac and PC and Western Digital claim that it will be able to withstand up to 1500G of force and a drop from 2 meters (6.5-foot). For data protection Passport comes with 256-bit AES hardware encryption and password protection, just for the extra protection.

Pricing and availability

My Passport SSD, for now, is only available at BestBuy but is expected to enter other retailers this quarter. The drive comes in 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB sizes, and the prices are 99.99$ for 256 GB, 199.99$ for 512 GB and 399.99$ for 1 TB devices.
