Whether you like it or not the future is upon us and in the modern age of technology if you aren’t moving you’re dying. This goes double if you work in any kind of technical field. As modern day marvels everyone in any career field today has to be two steps ahead of the competition, with instant access to a variety of files. It also become extremely important to have all that information backed up as well.
But what if you aren’t a hustling and bustling millennial trying to get an edge on the competition? Well, quite frankly we would probably get along better. As a not so hustling and bustling millennial I am a young professional but I am not absorbed in the corporate struggle. So, yay me. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a million reasons to want to protect my data. I have important stuff. And yes, I’m including the collection of music I listened to when I was fifteen but will likely never listen to again as “important.” Features of the aforementioned external hard drive include the following:
- 2 terabytes of storage.
- Choose from a variety of color options.
- Easily backup devices.
- No power supply necessary.
- Compatible with PS4.
- USB compatible.

Breakdown of the Features
I know that for most of you I’m already preaching to the quire, but for those you haven’t considered external storage for your all of you data you are making a potentially catastrophic mistake. You don’t have to be a tech genius and set up a twenty bay NAS with a RAID 10 in order in order to ensure your information remains protected. There are much more affordable ways to go about backing up your hard drive. Try this Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB External Hard Drive. I know the title is a mouthful, but it is a highly versatile low cost solution to data loss protection.
The fact that it’s also compatible with a PS4 means that you can start your system up quicker or you can load more games onto your system. Let’s face it; It’s extremely annoying when you have to delete games you want, but don’t want to delete because you get in those moods where you want to play. There is no power supply necessary, and it’s totally USB compatible for versatility. Along with the aforementioned, there is 2 terabytes of storage, and you can easily back up devices.
My First Impression
Well, I can’t say I was surprised by anything when the Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB External Hard Drive arrived as I am already familiar with the brand and have purchase Seagate products before. But, I suppose for the sake of this review I should probably humor you a little, and don’t mean with my terrible dad jokes. Or, do I? I don’t.
Though the fact that I continue to trust Seagate as a company should tell you something anyway. But, for those of you not familiar let me give you a quick rundown of what to expect should you choose this specific product. Seagate designs their products with the average consumer in mind, meaning you don’t have to be tech genius to use their portable hard drives and they make them as user friendly as possible, with the idea of “plug-and-play” at the forefront of their functionality. So, that is exactly what I got.
Ideally, a portable hard drive should be very small and easy to carry around and the Seagate Backup Plus Slim is certainly that without sacrificing any of the needed storage capacity. I can fit very easily into my book bag and I imagine it is small enough to fit in an average sized purse (but girl jeans have fake pockets so who knows what kind of madness is happening with their purses). This makes it very easy to take wherever you need to go because you knows when an overwhelming urge to listen to Limp Bizkit will take hold of you (I’ll admit, I haven’t wanted to since I was fifteen but I need to be prepared in the off chance it ever does because of reasons).

The Advantages of the Product
Well, apart from skipping happily down memory lane whenever you want with the entirety of the nineties alternative bands, you can skip down memory lane with other things too. Like photos, all the photos. But seriously, this is a great way to backup entire family albums of photos taken with cameras that weren’t attached to people’s phones. Ok, I’m probably just starting to sound like an old, bitter man but who cares because this is the internet and I have opinions. But really, it’s a great way to make sure those irreplaceable things like pictures of family members and home videos from when the kids were little won’t get lost or damaged.
All that sentimental type stuff aside you can do lots of cool things with it too, giving gamers and extra special advantage since the Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB External Hard Drive is compatible with PlayStation 4’s new software update. Especially since it is compatible with the PS4(check out our PS4 External Hard Drive Buying Guide). As long as you have the software update you should be good to go. But, what does this mean exactly, as I imagine you are wondering at this very moment. Well, basically that you can get more storage for your games. Just plug it into your PlayStation 4 and watch all your space for storing games grow instantaneously. With this software update you will also be able to install and download games directly to your external hard drive so you won’t have to bother with the tedium of moving things around. These new features will also allow you to customize wallpapers and improves Quick Menu access.
The last major advantage Seagate is bringing to the table with this portable hard drive is how portable it is. Yes, I seem to be stating the obvious but with all the cool features something this simple can be easy to overlook. This external hard drive is very thin which means it is very easy to store and carry should you need to do large scale file sharing.
The Disadvantages of the Product
The only disadvantage to this hard drive is that though designed to be extremely easy to carry around it doesn’t come with any protective case or shock absorbing precautions. Meaning, if you drop it you are screwed. If you break it you are screw. You might just be screwed if you don’t plan on backing up your backup. Although, it’s really not as bad as it might sound, since ideally you are only using this as a backup any way it is relatively affordable to replace should something go very, very wrong. Simply, get a new one and transfer all your information again, it’s that easy. Granted that might be a bit of a hassle or seem a little redundant, but hey, it’s not the end of the world. Additionally, you could avoid this entire headache by simply getting a case and then you won’t have to worry so much about it.
What’s in the Box?
It comes with the cables you will need in order to use it. While it’s not a lot, it’s everything you need to get started with the hard drive. Let’s not forget that it also comes with the external hard drive itself!
The Final Verdict
Overall, I think this is a great product that is low cost, very effective, and highly versatile. If you want to use it to back up your files you can. If you want to use it as a mobile media device, no problems there either. And if you want to expand your storage capacity with your PlayStation 4 that is basically what it was designed for. It is extremely easy to use out of the box and it really is as simple as plug and play.
